Living Room Like his contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright, Maher attempted to redefine American residential architecture. This building's traditional boxlike form is updated by a broad hipped roof and stark window and door openings. John Rath, who commissioned the house, owned one of the largest barrel-making companies in the United States.
