Opened in June 2012, the new $52.5 million Kroc Corps. Community Center in West Pullman provides more recreational, educational, arts and social service programs than any single facility in the state of Illinois. Built on 33 acres of former industrial land, the 160,000-square-foot complex includes an indoor water park, theatre, gymnasiums, workout space, and classrooms. Designed for 2,500 daily visitors from throughout the Far South Side and adjacent suburbs, the facility was created through a bequest to the Salvation Army by Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc.
