TIF Funds Approved for School Improvement Projects

A North Side high school and South Side elementary school will be improved through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance approved today by City Council.

Roald Amundsen High School, 5110 N. Damen Ave.
Amundsen High School in Lincoln Square will receive $760,000 in TIF assistance for costs associated with the planning, design and construction of new game programming and web design labs. The project will support the school’s career education programs, which prepare students for higher education or careers in emerging technical professions. The remaining balance of the $796,000 project will be paid by the Board of Education.

Previous TIF investments at Amundsen have included $3.1 million in improvements to the gym, computer lab, science lab, and auditorium.

John Hope College Prep High School, 5515 S. Lowe St.
Hope College Prep in Englewood will receive $287,000 in TIF for the planning, design and construction of a new a playground. TIF assistance will pay for the entire cost of the project.

The projects at both schools are expected to be finished by the end of the summer.
