Mayor Rahm Emanuel hosted a Naturalization Ceremony today with special guest Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera. The Mayors joined in congratulating eight people from Mexico who took the Oath of Allegiance to officially become United States citizens.

“Becoming a citizen of the U.S. does not mean giving up your past, it means freedom to start a new life in a country and a city that welcomes and embraces your heritage,” said Mayor Emanuel. “In Chicago, we welcome new Americans and celebrate our diversity, as we are proud to do so today on Cinco de Mayo.”

The Naturalization Ceremony was conducted by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

This is the 10th Naturalization Ceremony hosted by Chicago as part of the City’s New Americans Initiative with recent ceremonies having taken place on Presidents' Day and the 2016 November Election Day.
