Mayor Emanuel today released a statement on a KPMG report that found Chicago is expected to be a top ten global tech innovation hub over the next four years. Chicago is one of only four U.S. cities that made the cut.

“This report recognizes we see here in Chicago every day – our city’s tech ecosystem is one of the strongest in the world and continually gaining strength,” Mayor Emanuel said. “Our unmatched talent and culture of innovation are ensuring that progress will continue for years to come, generating economic growth that will reach every part of Chicago.”

According to the report, which can be found here, Chicago is tied for sixth place with Washington, D.C. and Berlin.

“Chicago has the talent, education and training programs, technology infrastructure, capital, incentives and an innovative culture,” said KPMG Chicago Tech Industry Leader Mike Gervasio. “So it’s not too surprising it made this list. The area is well-positioned to be a leading tech hub for years to come.”

The overall list is: 1. Shanghai; 2. New York; 3. Tokyo; 4. Beijing; 5. London; 6. Washington, D.C., Berlin and Chicago; 9. Tel Aviv and Boston.

Chicago’s rank in last year’s report was 18.

The report captures findings of a survey of 841 business executives globally, from companies, venture capital firms and angel investors that focus on technology.
