Statement from Mayor Rahm Emanuel on the Passing of the Reverend Tyrone Crider, Sr.

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of The Reverend Tyrone Crider, Sr. He was a preaching giant, a civil rights trailblazer, and someone who cared deeply about Chicago, our state, and our nation.

Since the first days of my administration, Rev. Crider was there to provide counsel, prayer and partnership on behalf of the people of Chicago. In addition to preaching the Gospel, Rev. Crider was a publisher, a community organizer, a civil rights activist and a mentor to countless ministers.

Amy and I send our condolences to his lovely wife Regina, his children, to the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church family, and to everyone whose life was positively impacted by his ministry and his leadership.

The world may have lost a dynamic minister, but his legacy of leadership and service that touched so many lives will always stay in our hearts.
