Domestic Worker Checklist

In Illinois, a domestic worker is someone who performs any of the following activities in any location:

  • House cleaning

  • Laundry

  • Nanny services including childcare and child monitoring

  • Cooking

  • Caregiving, personal care or home health services for elderly persons or someone with an illness, injury, or disability who require assistance in caring for themselves.

  • Companion services

  • Chauffeuring

  • Other household services

 

A domestic worker does not include:

  • a person performing domestic work who is the employer’s parent, spouse, child or other member of their immediate family unless their primary work duties include caregiving, companion services, personal care or home health services

  • Child and day care home providers participating in the Illinois child care assistance program
