Terms and Conditions for Other Work

Discretionary

The “other work” category of the Express Permit Program may only be used by permission of the Department of Buildings, where the department has discretionary authority to accept a permit application without full supporting documents under the Chicago Construction Codes Administrative Provisions.

Work on an existing building or structure

Work on an existing building or existing structure must comply with the General Terms and Conditions for Work on Existing Buildings and Structures.

New construction or temporary structure

New construction and temporary structures must comply with the General Terms and Conditions for New Construction and Temporary Structures.

Reroofing

Reroofing must comply with the Terms and Conditions for Reroofing.

Structural repairs

Structural repairs must be in accordance with the design and specifications that are prepared by an Illinois-licensed architect or structural engineer and submitted with the permit application.

Electrical work

Electrical work must comply with the edition of the Chicago Electrical Code in effect at the time when the permit application was submitted to the Department of Buildings. Electrical work must be performed by the Chicago-licensed electrical contractor listed on the permit application.

Mechanical (HVAC) work

Mechanical work must comply with the Terms and Conditions for Mechanical (HVAC) Work.

Plumbing work

Plumbing work must comply with the Terms and Conditions for Plumbing Work.

Zoning

This permit does not authorize establishing a new non-accessory zoning use or increasing the intensity of an existing non-accessory zoning use.
