What will the engagement process look like?
Stitching It Together will be part of a multi-phase planning effort by DPD. This study began in late 2023, and it is anticipated that this phase will be completed in late 2024. There will be multiple engagement sessions to engage and provide comments, ideas, and feedback. These sessions will include community open house/meetings, focus groups, one-on-one interviews, and opportunities at pop-up or other community events.

Stitching It Together será parte de un esfuerzo de planificación de múltiples fases por parte del DPD. Este estudio comenzó a finales de 2023 y se prevé que esta fase se complete a finales de 2024. As part of the initial phase of engagement efforts for Stitching it Together, the planning team has produced a summary document highlighting the input gathered and additional information. This document will be updated as additional feedback is received.

Spring Kickback
On March 23 and 24, 2024, DPD provided a resource table at the Spring Kickback events in Brighton Park and Gage Park. The team provided information on this study and invited interested participants to answer a survey.

March 5 Community Open House
On March 5, 2024, community members from the Brighton Park and Gage Park area gathered at the Brighton Park Community Campus for an open house event. The team introduced the Stitching It Together Initiative, discusssed what to anticipate in the planning process, and held a series of activities that gathered observations, issues, and concerns from participants. This event also provided a resource fair component supported by aldermanic offices, local organizations, and sister agencies and departments.

Why is planning important?
Urban planning helps us create a vision for the future of our communities and city by helping us understand how residents experience, work, grow, and interact with the urban environment. Recommendations and decisions in urban planning give shape to our neighborhoods by informing future economic development, locations for public assets such as parks and open space, community centers, and other public amenities, and improving physical and cultural connections. The planning process brings together diverse representatives from the community to help shape a future that elevates quality of life for generations.

La planificación urbana nos ayuda a tener una visión del futuro de nuestras comunidades y de la ciudad, al ayudarnos a comprender cómo los residentes perciben, trabajan, crecen e interactúan con el ambiente urbano.
